What is Art?
re: Ibsen said, “There must be a troll in what I write.” Art, today, encompasses the dream postponed into anything-goes. Justified in letting the artist descend into mediocrity, spiraling around an ego put upon a pedestal. As if, all that a person does is art. And it is. But I have no time for it. I agree with Harold Bloom in a recent interview. He asked, would you want just anyone to do surgery on you? Of course not. You want someone to know what they are doing before they cut into you. Yet today we look at the arts as if everything is the fine craftsmanship of a great artist, and much of it isn’t. Until you become yourself what benefit can you be to others? Mediocrity appeals to the mass, and it appeals to the mass ego. And though it may be art, it is not the exceptional dream, enchanting the child, like a kiss walking home to my knowledge, in an unformulated illustration which wakes me up – Michael Carrico, Seattle Artist

Title: Winter Solstice
Location: Baltimore
Description: It’s a day to celebrate… it’s the shortest day of the year and that means spring is just right around the corner!
Start Time: 7:00AM ish
Date: 2008-12-21
Good Reading about the Longest Night of the Year
The Winter Solstice is the first thing I look forward to when the weather starts to get a little too chilly to wear shorts. I look at it as the turning point, a point towards longer days and finally spring! I consider the END of January as the REAL start of spring for me… days are much longer, still cold but that springtime month, March is only a short 28 days away, longer and warmer days and maybe, just maybe, I can sneak in a pair of “Shorts” days in there somewhere.

Happy ThanksGiving Everybody!!! So, where are the Turkey Giblets?
I’m in charge of the Turkey every year and I am always fooled by the location of either the neck and/or giblets. I know one year I just completely forgot to take out the neck and giblets but all was fine and nobody but me knew about it until after the feast. Another year, I felt around inside the Turkey and could not find a thing, so into the cooking bag and a couple of hours later, poof, a perfect turkey. The neck and giblets where later found in the “neck” cavity of the Turkey, again nobody knew about this till late that evening, when people wanted leftovers for the next day. Some people where aghast and left w/o any leftovers.

Northern Liberties, Best “Section/Coolest Area” in the City of Brotherly Love…

What is a Fair Commission to pay a Gallery or Space for selling your artwork, collecting the money and paying you. I always thought getting paid was the biggest biggest reward. Personally I would pay up to 50% if the Space or Gallery sold 2 or more pieces monthly, that’s worth it to me.
But for this Survey let’s make this assumptions. 1 piece is sold on the average every 45 days so what is fair if a Gallery sells 2 of your pieces in 90 days and you get paid? (Just remember, that’s 8 pieces a year)
You must vote to see results… Thanks!
